Young Leadership Summit

YLS is a 4 day, overnight, college empowerment conference for a diverse cohort of low income high school juniors, selected through a competitive application process. It is designed to give these young leaders the practical tools they need to successfully apply to top universities, have full access to scholarship and financial aid opportunities, and set a course for academic and career success.

Date and Location:

August 8-11 at the University of Chicago

Eligibility Requirements:
Current High school junior, Class of 2020
3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale
Low income, as defined by Pell eligibility
Currently attends high school in the United States of a US territory

Roswell College Fair

Roswell ROOTS Festival

An invitation to students!
The Roswell ROOTS Festival is one of the largest and most comprehensive month long celebrations for Black History Month in the State of Georgia. For the past 17 years the city of Roswell has provided a series of unique events. This year the award winning festival will be hosting their third College Fair. Your students are invited to attend. The fair will be Sunday, February 24, 2:00 PM-5:00 AM at the East Roswell Recreation Center, 900 Fouts Road, Roswell, GA. High school students, and parents, are encouraged to come and meet college recruiters, as well as organizations that will provide responsible information concerning college admissions and financing. 

At 1:00 there will be a forum discussing the application process, financial assistance, and sustainability. Following the forum there will be an opportunity for students to win financial book awards via a Pitch Competition. Additionally, a  Book Award will be offered to the student/church with the most students in attendance.

JCamp Atlanta 2019

Georgia Public Broadcasting July 27- August 1, 2019

JCamp is a six-day intensive, multicultural journalism training program for high school students. Students will learn from professional journalists and get hands- training in writing, reporting, photography, television and radio broadcasting, online all-expenses-paid program with travel, meals and lodging covered by AAJA's donors and partners.

Eligibility & Required Materials: AAJA welcomes applications from all students regardless of race, ethnicity, country of origin, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or political affiliation. JCamp is open to high school students currently in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year. Before you begin, please make sure you gather all of the information you will need. 

Eligibility: 
Must be a high school student currently in your freshman, sophomore, or junior year.
Must be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the U.S. You may apply if you are attending an international high school, however you must be available to travel to and from JCamp from within the U.S. on the camp dates (AAJA will not cover any international travel) 

Required Materials: 
Collect the following materials BEFORE you begin. You will not be able to submit your application without them. Please be aware that the JCamp application should be completed by the student, not by the parent/guardian, teacher or adviser. 

-Your most recent high school transcript (PDF or JPG)
-A letter of recommendation (PDF or JPG) or permission from a teacher, adviser or counselor to give you their email address to be contacted for a letter of recommendation 
-Two essays answering the two questions below (each approximately 250 words in length) 
1. If you had your own Netflix special or talk show on YouTube, who would you interview, what would you ask, and why? 
2. Why do you think you should be selected for JCamp? 

Work samples and a YouTube video introducing yourself are encouraged, but not required, and should be submitted as links or PDF's in the space provided on this application. 

Deadline: 
The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 31 @ 11:59 pm PT. AAJA will not accept late applications. Please gather your materials and teacher recommendations as soon as possible before beginning your application.

Harvard Debate Council Diversity Project

Atlanta Botanical Garden

The Atlanta Botanical Garden has an opportunity for high school students that I hope you will share with your team of counselors and students in Gwinnett County. We are hosting the 2nd annual Summer Hogh School Internship Program here at the Garden. We look to hire 10 students from the Title 1 schools to work a regular schedule of 21 hours per week, Wednesday-Friday from June 5- July 19. Students will have the opportunity to work side by side with Garden experts to cultivate and conserve rare and beautiful plant species while growing their own college and career readiness skills. In addition to gaining invaluable experience, students will be paid $8/hour and provided with snacks, lunch, and transportation assistance in the form of parking cards or MARTA vouchers.

Gettysburg summer camps

Gettysburg college is offering several opportunities to attend academic camps over the summer months!
   Camp Psych: Campers will get hands on experiences that introduce them to research in psychology during this fun, challenging, and engaging introduction to the field. 
When: July 14-19, 2019 
Where: Gettysburg College campus 
Cost: $1,295 for lodging for 5 nights, meals, and activities 
Who: Rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors 
Provides rising high school sophomore, junior, and senior a window into how psychological science works. Campers will get a hands on experience that introduces them to research in psychology in a fun, challenging, ad engaging environment. Campers will not simply learn about cutting edge issues and research in psychology in this camp gives students an insider view of the field as well as preparation for college studies. 

Sunderman Piano Institute: Pianists 12-17 years old who desire to improve their performance skills, collaborate with other pianists, and dive deeply into related music subjects of their choice. Pianists will have opportunities to perform in daily studio class, and the final Friday concert will showcase pianists in both solo and ensemble works. 
When: June 23-28, 2019 
Where: Gettysburg College campus 
 Cost: No charge (Students are responsible for their own transportation to/from Gettysburg)
Who: Current high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors 

Writing Camp: Students gain an in depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen. You will develop unique writing voice and write your own story in one or more genres.

Cost: $1,275 for lodging for 5 nights, meals, and activities

Coding for Robotics & Electronics Camp: Students will gain hands on experience in coding, wiring, hardware, and building robots through the open source software known as Arduino. Through out this camp, campers will learn basic electrical engineering, the physics behind electricity, and how to think like a scientist.

When: Camp 1: June 16-21
Camp 2: June 23-28, 2019

3D Object Modeling and Printing Camp: Students will study 3D object modeling and printing starting with basics of 3D printer. After learning the fundamentals, they will practice designing objects.

Civil War Institute Summer Conference: The High School Student Scholarship component of Gettysburg College's annual Civil War Institute summer conference provides high school students an opportunity to explore the history of the Civil War era on the site of the war's most decisive battle.

Spring Academy Youth Camps

We are excited to announce our newest youth program at the Georgia Center, Spring Academy at UGA! Spring Academy will offer an enriching and fun week at the University of Georgia on March 11th to 15th! 

For our inaugural year of Spring Academy we will offer three courses to choose from: Mini Medical School, Photography and Creative Writing. Students ages 12-15 are welcome to enroll in the course of their choice. 

Note that Spring Academy is a day camp only. There will not be residential option for this program.

4. Application fee- $45 check, money order or debit card payable to AEJATC (NO CASH) Due by May 15th 

Process will begin once we have all the paperwork. You must pass a national stabilizing aptitude test containing Algebra 1, a little trig and 10th grade reading/comprehension. We will be passing out sample test questions during our career day. Actual test not given until June or July.
