Student Leaders Eligibility Criteria

A a student leader, you will participate in an 8- week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization where you will learn first- hand about the needs of your community and the critical role nonprofits play. In addition, you will learn valuable civic, social and business leadership skills. Each student leader will attend the student leaders summit held in Washington, D.C. where you will learn how government, business and nonprofit sector work together to address critical community needs.

To become a student leader, you must:

  • currently be a junior or senior in high school
  • be able to participate in an 8- week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization and work 35 hours a week
  • be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship through the end of September 2018
  • be able to participate in a week- long Student leaders summit in Washington, DC (July 8- July 13, 2019)(all expenses paid. this week will be part of your 8- week experience)
  • be a student in good standing at your school
  • obtain a letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, or school administrator

2018 GA CareerExpo Hiring Fair

2018 GA CareerExpo Hiring Fair

- As a part of the 2018 Georgia CareerExpo held on march 22nd - 23rd, we will conduct a state-wide hiring fair for students and graduates enrolled in construction or metal classes. Our industry is facing both a shortage of skilled labor and increase demand. This means opportunity for your students!

This event will:
  1. Connect our young people to great careers in a high-demand industry.
  2. Allow WBL Coordinators and education stakeholders to expand their network of contacts within construction industry.
Overview:
  • 3/22/18 - 3/23/18, GA International Convention Center (Atlanta, Ga)
  • Thursday, March 22nd - Target group will be students competing in SkillsUSA state competitions and observe only in attendance on that day ( 10:00am- 4:00pm ).
  • Friday, March 23rd - Target group will be observers attending the CareerExpo                ( 10:00am- 4:00pm ).
  • 5-10 minute interviews will be concluded in shifts based on WBL region and local job-site proximity.
  • Employment opportunities will be available for student ages 16-17 and 18+.
  • Employment will begin early June 2018.

  1. Students compete Student Employment Link The deadline to submit is February 16,2018. ( Instructors Recommendation link will be sent as a follow-up)
  2. Register to attend the 2018 Georgia CareerExpo ( Students attending the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference are automatically registered for the CareerExpo).

Internship opportunities

ABOUT
Do you know someone interested in a congressional internship? U.S. Congresswomen Karen C. Handel's office is always accepting applications for interns, and right now they're looking to fill slots for the 2018 spring and summer seasons. They're looking for students or recent graduates who are motivated, detail- oriented, and personable. All internships are unpaid, but interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working on capitol hill or in the district office in Roswell. Interns will be immersed in the legislative process, and have the opportunity to attend briefings on issues that interest them in the capitol. Responsibilities include answering phones, providing tours on the U.S. Capitol, assisting with constituent correspondence, and supporting legislative and communication Handel's Washington or Roswell office at (202) 225-4501 or (770) 998-0049 or visit the information online.

HOW TO APPLY
Internships run throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters for college students. To be considered for the internship program in the district or Washington office, please email a completed intern application, with an updated resume, cover letter detailing your interest in the internship with Congresswomen Handel's office (either D.C. or District), as well as a 2-3 professional/ personal references to the desired office below. only complete  applications will be considered for the internship program.
