Emory's Cultural Overnight Recruitment Experience

Dear Colleagues,

Emory College's CORE (Cultural Overnight Recruitment Experience) visit program is designed to support talented, high-achieving high school seniors from underrepresented backgrounds in their college search. Students invited to participate in the program are traditionally either first-generation college students, or they are from an underrepresented cultural or socioeconomic background.

During the three-day visit program, held October 13-15, students will have the opportunity to explore our vibrant campus, interact with current students, and stay overnight in the residence halls. The program is free and for our metro Atlanta students, we will cover all program related expense once they arrive on campus

Interested students need to apply for an invitation. Applications must be submitted no later than Wednesday, August 31 at 5:00 p.m. ET. All applications materials can be found at http://apply.emory.edu/core/. The decisions will be emailed to the students who applied by September 16.

CORE Program

CORE is a great opportunity to experience the vibrant and diverse community and get a taste of the academic challenges Emory offers our students. Students invited to CORE will explore campus, including attending classes, interacting with current students, staying overnight in residence halls, and engaging with faculty and staff. The Core program runs from Thursday early-afternoon through Saturday early-afternoon. Please keep in mind that selection to this program is not indicative of future admission to Emory University.

Travel Expenses for Participants

Students invited to attend CORE will receive assistance with travel expenses. For students who live outside of a 275-mile radius of Atlanta, the Office of Undergraduate Admission will purchase a plane ticket on the student's behalf. Selected students within a 275-mile radius are expected to drive to campus.

Application Process

High school seniors are welcome to apply. Due to brevity of the visit, only students living in the United States or Puerto Rico are eligible for consideration. Priority will also be given to students who have not visited campus.

To be considered for the CORE visit programs, students must:
  • Complete online application form
  • Submit self-reported high school transcript from 9th - 11th grade
  • Submit self-reported senior year schedule
  • Submit self-reported SAT/ACT scores (through standardized exams scores are not required to apply for CORE, preference will be given in the review process to students who submit scores)
Please note that attending CORE is by invitation only. If you are interested in being invited, please complete the application by Wednesday, August 31, 5:00 p.m.m ET.

How do I know if I've been invited?

The admission team will review submitted applications and notify students if additional information is required. Only complete applications submitted on time will be considered. Decisions will be communicated to anyone who applied by Friday, September 16. Students invited to attend CORE should not register for the October 15 Fall for Emory Open House program.

Please know that space is limited. If a student accepts the CORE invitation and then chooses to cancel after air travel tickets have been purchased, the student and their family are responsible for reimbursing Emory the cost of the ticket.
